As we gear up for the summer heat it’s not only important to stay on top of your water intake to stay hydrated, but you should also be taking precautions to hydrate your skin. The higher temperatures and sun can cause havoc on your skin and knowing the right steps to take to keep your skin supple and moisturized is important for damage prevention and anti-aging. 

How Can You Tell If Your Skin is Dehydrated?

You can tell if your skin is already dehydrated if your skin feels less plump than normal, is red with itchy or irritated patches, or if you’re starting to see flakiness on the skin. Note that dry skin does not necessarily mean you are physically dehydrated, however making sure you drink enough water is helpful to keeping your skin healthy.

What Should You Do if Your Skin is Dehydrated?

During the summer you will also use lighter, more lotion products versus heavier creams and ointments that are better for colder, winter months.

Some other tips are to use products that are fragrance free, as they can irritate dry skin or use natural products made with shea butter or coconut oil. If you have acne prone skin try using an oil free moisturizer.
